that would be 40 because 50% would take away half

New value =
80 - Percentage decrease =
80 - (50% × 80) =
80 - 50% × 80 =
(1 - 50%) × 80 =
(100% - 50%) × 80 =
50% × 80 =
50 ÷ 100 × 80 =
50 × 80 ÷ 100 =
4,000 ÷ 100 =
40
