Why is the Giver's job so important?

because if he didn't create jobs for everyone, people would be without work

because if he didn't make all of the decisions, people wouldn't know what to do

because if he didn't hold the memories, they would be very painful for the community

because if he didn't hold the memories, people would want to leave the community

Answer:

The correct answer is actually "because if he didn't hold the memories, they would be very painful for the community ."

Step-by-step explanation:

When the preceding giver was appointed, she momentarily received the memories. However, she eventually applied for release (i.e. death). The ephemeral memories she had learned were released throughout the whole community, bringing infliction and pain to the utopian society.
