Rosa is 402 meters from a tall skyscraper in Chicago. Your line of sight to the top of the skyscraper is a 20 ° elevation angle to the ground. How tall is the skyscraper to the nearest decimal?

Explanation:

If the height of the building (unknown) is opposite of the angle of elevation (20°) and the distance from the building (402 meters) is adjacent to the angle of elevation, then we use the tangent function to find the height of the building:

tanθ=opposite/adjacent

tan(20°)=x/402

402tan(20°)=x

900=x

Therefore, the height of the skyscraper is 900 meters.
