To answer you use the Pythagorean theorem, a^2+b^2=c^2

10. C= 5
11. B= 2 V55 (2 square root of 55)
12. C= 2 V5
13. A= V5.39

Explanation:

10. a^2+b^2=c^2
3^2+4^2=c^2
9+16=c^2 (add 9 and 16)
25=c^2
V25= Vc^2 (take the square root of both sides to get):
5=c

11. 6^2+b^2=16^2
36+b^2=256 (256-36)
b^2=220 (square root, 220 cannot be simplified so you factor it and get):
b= 2 V55

12. 4^2+2^2=c^2
16+4=c^2
20=c^2 ( square root it then factor)
2 V5 = c

13. a^2+3.5^2=4.2^2
a^2+12.25=17.64 (subtract 17.64 and 12.25)
a^2=5.39 ( square root/ cannot be simplified so the square root of 5.39 is your answer)

I hope this helped you understand! I hope you have a good day!

Answer:

  • Use Pythagorean to find the missing side lengths.
  • It assumed a and b are legs and c is the hypotenuse.
  • All numbers are rounded to the nearest tenth.

#10

  • c = √(3^2+4^2) = √(25) = 5

#11

  • b = √(16^2-6^2) = √(220) = 14.8

#12

  • c = √(4^2+2^2) = √(20) = 4.5

#13

  • a = √(4.2^2-3.5^2) = √(5.39) = 2.3
