The Watergate scandal was a scandal during and after the 1972 Presidential Election. Frank Wills, a security guard, discovered clues that somebody broke into the offices of the Democratic Party and George McGovern months before the election. Those somebodies would be William Mark Felt Sr, a former FBI agent. This changed how files, documents, and wiretaps were secured better so politics can't gain an advantage over one another.
