\huge{ \mathrm{ \underline{Answer :}}}

The given equations are : -

−5x + 8y = 0 - [1]

-7x - 8y = -96 -[2]

Add the equations :

  • \mathrm{- 5x + 8y + (- 7x - 8y) = 0 + (- 96)}

  • \mathrm{- 5x + 8y - 7x - 8y = - 96}

  • - 12x = - 96

  • x = 8

_____________________________

plugging value of x in [1] :

  • - 5x + 8y = 0

  • ( - 5 * 8) + 8y = 0

  • - 40 + 8y = 0

  • 8y = 40

  • y = 5
