Megan and Heidi are making cookies for an upcoming bake sale. Megan is making chocolate chip cookies and Heidi is making sugar cookies.

If Megan plans to make x bags of cookies, the equation below represents the total number of cookies she will need to make.

y = 12x

Heidi recorded the total number of cookies she would need to make in the table shown below.

If Megan and Heidi make the same number of bags of cookies, who will have to make the least amount of cookies?
A.
Megan will have to make the least amount of cookies.

B.
Heidi will have to make the least amount of cookies.

C.

The person who will have the least amount of cookies is Heidi. Hence, Option B is correct.

Using the expression given for our Calculation;

Megan :

  • y = 12x

The proportionality Constant is 12 which is number of cookies made per bag .

Using the table , we can determine a similar expression for Heidi.

Using the pair of point (12 , 60)

y = kx ; k = proportionality Constant

60 = 12k

k = 60/12

k =5

Hence, we have ;

  • y = 5x

The number of cookies per bag produced by Heidi is 5.
