Answer:

approx 40.2 sq ft

Explanation:

Calculate the area of the small dotted line triangle first.

10^2 = 6^2 + x^2

100 = 36 + x^2

64 = x^2

x = 8

8 * 6 / 2

8 * 3

24 feet squared

After you have that calculated, you calculate the entire right triangle.

16^2 + x^2 = 17.9^2

256 + x^2 = 320.41

x^2 = 64.41

x approximately equals 8.03

8.03 * 16 = approx 128.41

Ans / 2 = approx 64.2

Now you can find the triangle you are looking for.

64.2 - 24 = approx 40.2 feet squared

Answer:

so the formula for area of a triangle is 1/2BH, so the base is 10, and to find height you would you Pythagorean theorem. add the imaginary base of 6 to the actual base of 10 to make 16, and let height=H, so
H^2+16^2=17.9^2,
H^2+256=320.41, so
H^2=320.41-256,
H^2=64.41,
H=√(64.41), therefore
H=8.02558409089, multiply that by the base of 10, to get 80.2558409089, divide that by 2 to get 40.1279204545 as the area
