How is carbon transferred to the soil ?

Answer:

On grazed land, cattle trample some of the plants into the soil increasing carbon content. In forested areas, dead plant material is incorporated into the soil by worms and other soil organisms. On cropped land, it doesn't very much, causing soil degradation.
