As an airplane rises. the outside temperature drops from 3.6F for every 1000 feet of elevation gain. Suppose the outside temperature is 75F on the ground when the plane takes off and -51F at cruising altitude. How high is the plane then?

Answer:

35,000

Explanation:

1. Find the difference between 75 and -51.

75 - (-51) = 75+51 = 126

2. Divide 126 by 3.6

126/3.6 = 35

3. Now what is the number 35? That is how much times the airplane has approached 1,000ft. So you have to multiply 35 and 1,000.

35 x 1,000 = 35,000.

4. Find the equation

([75 - x]/3.6) × 1,000, in which this case, x is the Fahrenheit the surroundings is in

a. Substitute x with -51.

b. The equation should follow the exact steps I mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps
