Greg has traveled 240 miles by train at a constant speed for 5 hours. Max has traveled 180 miles by a car at a constant speed for 3 hours.

1st part: 12mph

2nd part: 60 more miles

Explanation:

So first, you need to find the mph (miles per hour) each person is traveling at before doing anything else. And to find this, jus divide the number of miles traveled by the hours it took:

Greg: 240 miles / 5 hours = 48 mph

Max: 180 miles / 3 hours = 60 mph

Therefore, you answer to the first one is just 60mph - 48mph which is 12mph faster

The second part, since you know the mph, you can just plug the numbers in:

Greg has travelled 240 miles after 5 hours and if Max goes for 2 more, it’s 2 hours (Max’s mph) -> 2(60) -> 120 miles (this is the amount of miles that Max covers in only 2 hours). We have to add 120 to the 180 miles that Max already has travelled, which gives us the sum of 300 miles in total. Now, we can just subtract: 300 miles - 240 -> 60 more miles (the answer for the second one)
