We learned that several issues, most notably slavery, led to the American Civil War. This was a time when this country was deeply divided. In your opinion, should we continue to memorialize and commemorate Civil War battle sites, generals, and other leaders so that we can honor and learn from the past or should we only address these things in history books and museums?

Answer:

The past of the U.S. needs to be known, especially when it comes to such an important even as the Civil War, for this reason, the events of the war, including its causes, consequences, protagonists, interpretations, and so on, should be remembered in history books, museums, and perhaps even statues and monuments, depending on the character that wants to be given to those things.

Under no circumstance should the Civil War be an event that is forgotten, or that stops being debated about, because the Civil War is a crucial moment that whose understanding is needed to understand both the past, the present, and the future of America.
