Lucia has a bedroom window that gets direct sun in the afternoon and her room gets hot. She puts some mylar (a shiny plastic) on the outside of her window.

Glass panes trap the sunlight which is ultraviolet radiations of low wavelength and after reflection it is converted to heat waves. In the form of heat waves having higher wave length the window panes do not allow them to pass and can't go out of the window pane back so, these trapped heat waves will rise the temperature of bedroom. This effect is known as green house effect.
