5x + 15y = 10 ---› Eqn. 1

5x - 10y = -40 ---› Eqn. 2

Subtract the eqn 2 from 1 to eliminate the x variable

Thus:

25y = 50

Divide both sides by 25

y = 50/25

y = 2

Substitute y = 2 into eqn 1.

5x + 15y = 10 ---› Eqn. 1

5x + 15(2) = 10

5x + 30 = 10

Subtract 30 from each side

5x = 10 - 30

5x = -20

Divide both sides by 5

5x/5 = -20/5

x = -4

Solution would therefore be (-4, 2)
