Can somebody please give me an example of simplifying fractions? its for my math project.

Answer:

5/10 = 1/2

Explanation:

Divide the numerator and denomator of 5/10, and you will get 1/2. This is my example of simplifying fractions.

Let's take the most well known example of 5/10.

5/10 has a common factor right? What is the GCF, or greatest common factor of 5 and 10? 5 is the GCF because that is the greatest number both 5 and 10 can be divided by.

We can simplify the fraction by dividing both, the numerator and denominator by the GCF, 5. Basically:

5/10

-------

5

This can give us 5/5/10/5

Solving this would give us 1/2.

Now, lets check our work. Multiply both the numerator and denominator by 5:

1x5/2x5

5/10 is the product!
