A, E and B lie on a straight line segment. C, D and B lie on a straight line segment. BD = 3m, CD = 12m and AB = 19m. Work out the length of BE. Give your answer as a decimal. please help

If A, E and B lie on a straight line segment. C, D and B lie on a straight line segment, based on their similarities,

AB/CB = BE/BD

Given

BD = 3m,

CD = 12m

AB = 19m.

CB = CD+BD

CB = 12+3 = 15m

On substituting

19/15 = BE/3

Cross multiply

15BE = 19×3

15BE = 57

BE = 57/15

BE = 3.8m

Hence the length of BE is 3.8m
