Jason went swimming. He dives 1/7 of the distance from the diving board to the end of the swimming pool. Then, he swims 4/5 of the distance from the diving board to the end of the swimming pool. He estimated that he covered about 7/12of the distance from the diving board to the end of the swimming pool. Is Jason's estimate reasonable?

Answer:

no

Explanation:

Total distance he could have swam from the diving board to the end of the swimming pool. = 1 - 1/7 = 6/7

If he swam 4/5 of it, total distance swam = 6/7 x 4/5 = 24/35

total distance covered = 1/7 + 24 /35 = 29/35
