Answer: $0.23

==================================================

Work Shown:

6% = 6/100 = 0.06

6% of $3.79 = 0.06*3.79 = 0.2274 = $0.23

-----------

Notes:

  • 0.23 dollars = 23 cents
  • The total bill, after tax is included, is 3.79+0.23 = 4.02 dollars.
  • We can multiply by 1.06 as a shortcut: 1.06*3.79 = 4.0174 = 4.02 dollars; this is because 1.06 = 1 + 0.06 = 100% + 6%
