Chromatophore is a cell containing pigments and hence reflects light. Depending upon the distribution of these chromatophores and the pigments in them, an organism gets different colour patterns. Chromatophores are found in a large variety of organisms ranging from amphibians, reptiles, crustaceans to cyanobacteria. Chromatophores are termed as melanophores (black), xanthophores (yellow), leucophores (white), etc. depending upon the pigment colour.
