Let Anne's amount is a.

Joan's amount, j = a-7 ...(1)

Together they have $43.

a+j = 43 ...(2)

Put the value of j from (1) in (2).

a+a-7= 43

2a = 43+7

2x = 50

a = 25

Anne's amount = $25

Joan's amount = 25 -7 = $18

Hence, Jaon have $18 and Anne's have $25.
