Answer:

\pi * 36 / 8 \ = 14.1

Explanation:

what is the area of a full circle ?

area =

\pi * {r}^(2)

with "r" being the radius of the circle.

how many degrees in a full circle ? 360

but we need only the area of a 45 degree segment (and not the full circle).

we could either calculate 360 / 45 or do it even quicker by a fast mind calculation : there are 4 90 degrees segments in a full circle, and 45 degrees is half of 90 degrees, so there are twice as many 45 degree segments than 90 degree segments.

in both cases (of course) the answer is 8.

so, we need only 1/8th of the area of the full circle.

=> the area of the full circle is pi × 6^2 = pi × 36

=> 1/8th of that area is pi × 36 / 8 = 14.1
