Given:

If the player is 2ft from the net:

f(2) = -(2 - 1)² + 8 = 7

As 7 ft < 7 ft 4 in, the ball will NOT go over the net

If the player is 4ft from the net:

f(4) = -(4 - 1)² + 8 = -1

As -1 ft < 7 ft 4 in, the ball will NOT go over the net
