in this case we will solve using substition method

x + 5y = 8 .... 1

-x + 2y = -1 .....2

solve for the equation

x = 8 - 5y ...... 3

solve the equation in equation 2

-x + 2y = -1

-(8-5y ) + 2y = -1

-8 +5y + 2y = -1

7y = -1 + 8

7y = 7

divided by 7 on both sides

y = 1

solve the value of y in equation 3

x = 8 - 5y

x = 8 - 5(1)

x = 8 -5

x = 3

the point of interception (3 ; 1)
