You want differing opinions because men of good will (there of few of those today, but in previous they did exist), can listen to each other and learn the merits of his/her argument. There were some royal battles while the American Constitution was written, but in the end, they managed to deal with everything but slavery and women's rights.

Women's rights took another 144 years and the question of slavery was dealt with in the 14th Amendment. That took a Civil War to get resolved. I tend to applaud what did get done and not what didn't.
