Each time x goes up by 5, y decreases by 4

We can say the slope is

slope = rise/run

slope = (change in y)/(change in x)

slope = (-4)/(5)

slope = -0.8

The y intercept is 62 because this is the starting y value. The y intercept always occurs when x = 0.

Because the slope is m = -0.8 and the y intercept is b = 62, we go from y = mx+b to y = -0.8x+62

Therefore, the equation is y = -0.8x+62

This is the same as saying y = (-4/5)x+62 since -4/5 = -0.8

-------------------------

Interpretation:

The slope of -0.8 means that the height drops or decreases by 0.8 thousand feet per minute. Recall that y is in thousands. The phrasing "0.8 thousand" is probably better suited to call this 800 since 0.8*1000 = 800.

So it's probably easier to say "the height drops by 800 feet per minute".

As mentioned earlier, the y intercept is the starting height. The table shows x = 0 pair up with y = 62. Therefore, the starting altitude is 62,000 feet. After this point is when the UAV starts its descent.

Put another way: The cruising altitude was 62,000 feet and afterward the aircraft started its descent.
