This statement says energy is destroyed when we should know that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can simply be transferred while doing numerous tasks, movement and respiration or the energy is egested and remains in dead organisms which passes to decomposers. Respiration releases energy from food in the form of adenosine triphosphate and heat.
