Explanation:

We know that


(2)/(3)× + 3 = 2× - 1

Next, solve for x

2x -
(2)/(3)× = 3 + 1


(4)/(3) x
= 4


x = 4 * 3 / 4 = 3

Here is it simpler

2/3 of 3 = 2 + 3 = 5 (3 more = + 3) (2/3 of 3 = two-thirds of a number)

is the same as

(3 * 2) - 1 = 5 (twice the number = 3 * 2) (1 less than = - 1)
