HELLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS WAS DUE LAST WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two lines, A and B, are represented by the equations given below:

Line A: y = x − 4
Line B: y = 3x + 4

Which of the following shows the solution to the system of equations and explains why? (5 points)

(−3, −5), because the point satisfies one of the equations
(−3, −5), because the point lies between the two axes
(−4, −8), because the point satisfies both equations
(−4, −8), because the point does not lie on any axis

1. turn it into standard form:

first equation:

y = x − 4

y - x = -4

second equation:

y = 3x + 4

y - 3x = 4

2. multiply the first equation by -3 and then add both equations in order to remove x.

-3y +3x = 12

+ y - 3x = 4

-2y = 16

y = -8

3. With y, plug it in the first equation.

-8 = x -4

x = -4

Your intercept is (-4, -8)

The answer is (−4, −8), because the point satisfies both equations
