The Communist Party in China operated differently than political parties in the U.S. in that in China, Mao Zedong was the absolute leader and ruler of the Communist Party and of China. The members of the party pledged total obedience to Mao. There was no freedom of speech and party members could not have discrepancies or different ideas that could question the authority of Mao.

On the other hand, in the case of the political parties of the United States, their members could freely express their ideas to support or change the political party's platform. There were even internal debates when discrepancies occurred. Parties organized meetings and conventions to elect their candidates, the way it is supposed to be in a democracy.

And in Communist China, there was no democracy. Mao was a dictator.
