A boat travels 120 miles with the current down the river in less time than it takes to travel 80 miles against the current up the river. The boat makes the entire trip in 12 hours. The speed of the boat, without the current, remains constant at 20 miles per hour what is the speed of the current.

Answer:

The speed of the current is 10 mph

Explanation:

x= speed of the current

(80)/(20-x) + (120)/(20+x) = 12

80 (20+x) + 120 (20-x) = 12 (20-x) (20+x)

x=10
