It’s a nice little phrase that says even if you don’t attain your original goal, you can still have success. It would probably be better for people to just say that, as the phrase doesn’t really make sense.
The single closest star to us is the sun, which is still many times further away than the moon.
The closest stars are in Alpha Centauri, 4 light years away.
If we applied the quote literally to how our universe is, it would be, “if you don’t hit your goal, you may eventually go much farther past it and do something even greater”.
I think more sensible sounding inspiration would just be that it’s better to try then not to try.
