1) A square has 4 congruent sides, and the perimeter is the sum of these 4 sides. So perimeter = 3x+3x+3x+3x, which can also be expressed by 4(3x), simplified, it equals to 12x.
2) x^2 + 6x + 8
3) x^2 - 4x - 12
