Explanation:

Solving it in a way that x/4 is a fraction and not division so you would make that 1/4x. y = x/4 +1/2 x/4 is 1/4x so then you subtract 1/2 from both sides to get y - 1/2 = 1/4x. You can then divide 1/4 on both sides. -1/2 divided by 1/4 is -2 and 1/4y. This will get your answer of x = 1/4y -2 for x. Y is just 1/4x + 1/2
