The cosine ratio of an angle is defined as the ratio of the adjacent side over the hypotenuse. Remember the ratios for sine, cosine, and tangent with the acronym SohCahToa :

Sine is Opposite/Hypotenuse: Soh

Cosine is Opposite/Hypotenuse

Tangent is Opposite/Adjacent

In the diagram:

Adjacent = 5

Opposite = 12, and

Hypotenuse = 13

Since Cosine = Opposite/Hypotenuse

Cosine of Θ would be 12/13 or 0.9231
