BRITISH COLONIAL LITERATURE

  • The British Empire was fractured after the end of World War II, and the gems from its Imperial Crown were achieving independence one by one (Greenblatt 1832). These colonies' writers began to construct their own English-language works of literature (Greenblatt 1832). This was the greatest significant geographical movement in the history of English literature (Greenblatt 1832). These writers combined their native customs with their experiences during their stay in the British Empire in their writing (Greenblatt 1832). Wole Soyinka, Nadine Gordimer, Derek Walcott, V.S. Naipul, and J.M. Coetzee are some examples of post-colonial writers. All of them were Nobel Prize winners, including Coetzee (Greenblatt 1832). The impacts of the Empire

EXAMPLE:

  • Heart of Darkness, a novel by Joseph Conrad about a man working in the ivory trade who cruises up the Congo River and observes the horrors of colonization and empire, is a classic example.
