The correct answer is A) the Vietnam War.

The seeming unity of JOIN and the SDS in the early 1960s eroded as Americans became divided over the Vietnam War.

This group called "JOIN" had its headquarters in Uptown Chicago, Illinois. It tried to invite the community of the area to unite and demand social justice for poor people, and opportunities for unfavored groups. When JOIN was looking to join forces with the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in the 1960s, The American people started to be divide over the Vietnam War issue. Some people supported the presence of United States troops in South Vietnam, others were against it and started to took the streets to organize demonstrations and protests in public places.

After the Tet Offensive, more and more American people showed their opposition to the War and demanded the federal government withdrawal of the US troops from Vietnam. They thought that was not an American War.
