Answer:

I would go with D, 8.

Explanation:

Tossing a coin, but not saying heads or tails is accepting both (2 outcome branches)

There are 4 consonants in ALGEBRA (each of the two branches above have 4 outcomes that match)

2 x 4 = 8

I don't like how the question is written, because the "total number of outcomes" usually includes the ones you don't want, which would be 14. But since that's not an option, I would chose D.
