First, plot the point they gave you (-8, -1) on a graph. Then use the rise over run of the slope (rise 3 and run 4) to find the next points until x = 0 (where the line crosses the y-axis). As you can see in the image, I plotted the points. 5 is the y-intercept because it is the y value on the line when x = 0.

So with the slope 3/4 and the y-intercept of 5, you can substitute the values and get your equation:

y = mx + b

y = (3/4)x + (5)

y = 3/4x + 5
