Given:

Height of a man =
61(5)/(12) inches

Height of the daughter =
58(4)/(9) inches

To find:

How much taller is the man?

Solution:

It this problem, we need to find the difference between the heights of the man and his daughter.

Difference between the heights
=61(5)/(12)-58(4)/(9)

=(732+5)/(12)-(522+4)/(9)

=(737)/(12)-(526)/(9)

Taking LCM, we get

Difference between the heights
=(3(737)-4(526))/(36)

=(2211-2104)/(36)

=(107 )/(36)

=2(35 )/(36)

Therefore, the man is
2(35)/(36) inches taller than his daughter.
