30 minutes longer for adam to complete because a rate of 8 miles an hour means that half of that time is 4 miles for every 30 minutes. For adam to complete a 12 mile race would take an hour and 30 minutes. Adam takes an hour to run half of 12 miles and another to finish making his time 2 hours. Convert to minutes subtract and you get 30 minutes
