In eukaryotes, photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts of the cell. However, prokaryotes do not have membrane-bound organelles so they don't have chloroplasts. In prokaryotic cells, photosynthesis occurs in the infoldings of the cell membrane, which contain chlorophyll.
