A plane flying from City A to City B travels x miles per hour for a total

of 4.5 hours. The plane takes the same route on the return trip, traveling
25 miles per hour faster for a total of 4.25 hours. What is the total distance
that the plane travels?

distance = rate * time

x = rate * 4.5

x = (rate+25) *4.25

set them equal

rate)*4.5 = (rate+25) *4.25

4.5rate = 4.25 rate + 106.25

4.5rate- 4.25 rate = 106.25

0.25rate = 106.25

rate = 425

4.5(425) = 1912.5

check it

4.25(425+25) = 1912.5 yes it checks , that's right :)
