This trapezoid is broken up into two shapes: a triangle and a parallelogram.

The formula for area of a triangle is b (base) × h(height) ÷ 2.

The base of the triangle is 4 and the height is 10.

b (base) × h(height) ÷ 2

10 × 14 ÷ 2 = 70

The formula for area of a parallelogram is b (base) × h(height).

The base of the parallelogram is 10 and the is 10 as well.

b (base) × h(height)

10 × 10 = 100.

Lastly, add both areas.

100 + 70 = 170

Therefore, the area of this figure is 170 in².
