One way to solve this problem is to find out how much the constant of proportionality is (finding out how long 1 mile would take), and then multiplying that by 8. The other but easier way (according to me) is to make an equation. The proportional equation you have to make is:

5 miles/ 105 minute

8 miles/ x minutes

In this situation, x is the unknown amount of minutes it would take Beau to ride is his canoe for 8 miles.

Then you cross multiply, getting 5x = 105*8.

Next, you multiply 105 by 8 to get 840.

Lastly, divide that by 5 to get 168 minutes.
