A jar contains nickels and d dimes. There are 28 coins in the jar, and the total value of the coins is $2.00. How many nickels and how many dimes are in the jar ?

Answer:

12 dimes and 16 nickels

Explanation:

D +N = 28

N = (28-D )

I will multiple the next by 100 to avoid decimals dines: 10 instead of 0.10....

10D + 5(28-D) = 200

10D + 140-5D = 200

5D = 60

D = 12 (12 dimes)

28-12 = 16 (16 nickels)

12x 0.10 + 16 X 0.05 = 2.00

$1.20 + $0.80 = $2.00
