A straight line = two linear pairs
They form supplementary angles
(Add up to 180 degrees)
5x + x + 12 = 180
6x + 12 = 180
6x = 168, x = 28
m<1 = 5(28) = 140 degrees
m<2 = 28 + 12 = 40 degrees
Solution: m<1 = 140 degrees
m<2 = 40 degrees
