Explanation:

First you have to set up the equation -

4x + 7 = 2x + 23

then isolate the variables

4x - 2x + 7 - 7 = 2x - 2x + 23 - 7

2x = 16

x = 8

then substitute the variable with 8

4(8) + 7 = 39

2(8) + 23 = 39
