Describe what happens in the park between Ponyboy, Johnny, and the Socs. Why is this moment significant?

A group of Socs attack Ponyboy and Johnny. Ponyboy blacks out during this event, once he comes to, he finds that Johnny stabbed Bob with his switchblade killing him. This is significant because it sets the rest of the story up and leads up to Ponyboy and Johnny going into hiding, being the most important event in the book.
