c² = a² + b²

Where,

c = 8.8 cm

a = x

b = 15.6/2 = 7.8 cm

Plug in the values

8.8² = x² + 7.8²

8.8² - 7.8² = x²

16.6 = x²

√16.6 = x

x = 4.1 (to nearest tenth)
