Answer:

72 85 23

Explanation:

Equation

(x - 13) + (x/5 + 6) + x = 180 Multiply the equation by 5

Solution

5(x - 13) + 5(x/5 + 6) + 5x = 180*5 Remove the brackets

5x - 65 + x + 30 + 5x = 900 Combine like terms on the left

11x - 35 = 900 Add 35 to both sides

35 35

11x = 935

x = 85

Answer

x - 13 = 85 - 13 = 72

x = 85

x/5 + 6 = 17 + 6 = 23

Total = 180

It might be easier not to multiply through by 5 at the beginning

(x - 13) + (x/5 + 6) + x = 180 Remove the brackets

x - 13 + x/5 + 6 + x = 180 Combine like terms

2x + x/5 -- 7 = 180

x/5 = .2x Put 0.2x in for x/5

2.2x - 7= 180 Add 7 to both sides

7 7

2.2x = 187 Divide by 2.2

x = 187/2.2

x = 85

Take your pick. Both methods will give the same answer.
